Vernon BC Beaches - Gardum Lake
Location and Directions:
Drive north on 97A to Enderby BC. Five kilometres past Enderby BC, turn
north on 97B and drive about 3 kms. Turn on Gardum Lake road and follow
it for a few kilometres. Don't turn left when you see the sign for the
Legion camp but continue on the road. When you see Park Road follow it
until you see the gate entrance to the park. There are three rough parking
lots there. The park and beach are 100 metres from the parking lot.
Description:
The local community has developed a beach with nice sand. The beach has
a mucky bottom and much of the lake is quite weedy. The spot however is
very beautiful and generally quiet. There are two floating docks, of which
one has a diving board. There are many turtles, ducks and other wildlife
in the area. A dock to the north of the beach has good childrens fishing.
With small hooks and bait (non-commercial worms work great), most children
will catch a couple of the bass which were introduced in the lake and
perhaps a larger perch. There are also trout in this very fertile lake.
This park is maintained mostly by the work of local community leaders,
so please respect the park and be a good neighbour. Oddly enough, lots
of German tourists seem to know about this spot, since I've run into some
most times I visit this beach.
